Darelle and Sally's swimming adventures part 2: Clifton Gardens, Chowder Bay, Mosman

Clifton Gardens is a reserve at Chowder Bay in the northern harbourside suburb of Mosman. The Headland forms part of Sydney Harbour National Park.

It's also a popular fishing spot, and place to "park" your boat.

Facilities are good, including a modern amenities block, fresh water refill station and a small kiosk/cafe for a coffee or smoothie, and light food (croissants, toasties, pies, sausage rolls).

When we visited on 11 January the water was still a little bit murky after recent torrential rains Sydney received, but we were informed that the fish were biting at least for some, and the water was warm and inviting.....swimming was good in the baths enclosure.

It's a popular spot for family picnics (no BBQs provided) and school picnics - lots of space for kids to play.

And, we even came across a poster-child for the National Park.

There is a flat-rate parking fee of $10 for up to 12 hours.

The baths enclosure

Great to see the Council providing a fresh water refilling station.

A bit of debris after the recent storms. I got talking to a council worker (see below) and he asked me what the water quality was like.

Lots of fun to be had jumping off the elevated walkway round the baths enclosure.

I talked to Deanne for a while; unfortunately the fish weren't biting today for this dedicated fisherwoman

Lots of picnic space, and shady areas under trees(more than seen here)

Some beautiful art work depicting the marine life to be discovered by snorkellers

Impressive children's playground

Where there are children, there are holes to be dug!

Darelle and Sally's swimming adventures Part 1: Mahon Pool, Maroubra

My friend and I have decided to check out different swimming locations around Sydney - one  a week if we can...

First up is Mahon Pool at Maroubra. I've posted about it before: see here Feb 2011 and see here (2009)

We visited here on New Years Day, 2016.

Mahon was constructed by Randwick Council in 1932 as part of unemployment relief program. See timeline of its history on the 2009 blog.

We liked that there is a large grassy area above, so you don't have to perch on the rocks. The toilet and change facilities are adequate (though housed in an indescribably ugly red brick block!). Unfortunately there's nothing in the way of shade other than Bring Your Own, as the cliff above is very exposed.

The water at Mahon can be quite cold - on this hot day it was "refreshing" !!!
